This world-famous chocolate cake with apricot jam and a thick layer of chocolate icing was created in Vienna by Franz Sacher in 1832. Later on, in 1876, his son Eduard Sacher opened a restaurant behind the Opera, which later became the Hotel Sacher. To this day this is the only place in the world where you can buy the "Original Sachertorte". The recipe remained a well-kept secret until 1965.
